I once read the memoirs of a survivor: a scientist who had escaped from Germany in 1933. He woke up in Berlin the morning after the Reichstag Fire, everything was calm. He took the next train out, it was half-empty, there was no trouble at the border. The next day, trains were mobbed, people were questioned and turned back.
The lesson he learned, was that you don’t have to be smart in order to survive; only smarter than the others.
Today I’m filled with hope, knowing that 71.7 million of my countrymen are as dumb as bricks.
