In that wondrous book, The Thirteen Clocks, the Cold Duke of Coffin Castle has a spy despatched to report all evil spoken against him. Unfortunately, to do so the spy must quote the evil spoken, resulting in his own immediate dispatch. I emailed a colleague to inform them that a book of mine is scheduled to be published in a certain country known for its intolerant attitude. I explained that in Country X, first a galley of each book must be approved by the Ministry of X Values; then, a copy of the cover must be submitted for approval; after that a copy of the Introduction, and there was some doubt my book would be approved since in my introduction I quoted Baudelaire’s line about X, the Wily One. Fortunately, it seems, the printed copies are scheduled for approval, and my book should appear in Country X in July, if Y wills it.
But you’ll have to fill out the blanks yourselves. My email was rejected by Microsoft.
